FedEx Corporation is an American multinational courier delivery service provider. The company has it headquarter in Memphis, Tennessee. The name "FedEx" is a syllabic shortening of Federal Express. Federal express was used from 1973 till 2000. The company is known for its instant shipping service and original system that could track packages. They provide real-time updates on package location; this feature has now been executed by most other carrier services.
Caliber companies comprised RPS, a small-package ground service. Roberts Express, an advanced shipping provider. Viking Freight, a regional, less than truckload cargo carrier serving the Western United States. Caribbean FDX Corporation was founded to oversee all the actions of those companies and its original air division, Federal Express.
FedEx Ground was planned in 1990, but later abandoned, a joint service with British Airways to have BA fly a Concorde supersonic jet airliner to Shannon, Ireland with FedEx packages on board. Then FedEx would have sailed the packages related to their delivery points in Europe. Vice president of that time Ron Ponder oversaw this future scheme.
FedEx Corporation altered its name to FedEx Corporation and re-branded all its subsidiaries in January 2000. Federal Express became FedEx Express, RPS became FedEx Ground, Roberts Express became FedEx Custom Critical, and Caliber Logistics and Caliber Technology were joint to cover FedEx Global Logistics. A new subsidiary, called FedEx Corporate Services, was designed to unify the sales, marketing, and customer service for all the companies. FedEx attained Tower Group International in February 2000, which was an international logistics company. FedEx also developed World Tariff, a custom duty and tax data company.
